Boat covers

Rain, wind, sun radiation and other weather conditions or even seawater – covers for boats are designed to withstand harsh outdoor conditions and are needed in specific dimensions to reliably protect the valuable property beneath.

Though, as well as being robust, a boat tarpaulin also needs to be lightweight and compact when packed away, in order to keep weight and storage requirements on board to a minimum.

PLANOFIL® tarpaulin material

For this demanding application, PLANOFIL® is the go-to material for upholsterers and boat owners alike. Our premium tarpaulin material, which is made in Switzerland and is market leader in many of the functional categories tested, is ideal for the yachting and boat making sector owing to its exceptional functional properties: ultra-lightweight, compact to store, extremely tear-resistant, UV-resistant, weather-resistant, waterproof, water-repellent and dirt-repellent, yet low-maintenance and easy to work with.

The key benefits of PLANOFIL®
for use in boat covers

At 190 g/m2, PLANOFIL® tarpaulin weighs less than any comparable product on the market. When it comes to a boat cover for an 8 or 9-metre long boat, this can be the difference of several kilograms. The low weight also saves time and energy when covering and uncovering a boat.

Our thin and light PLANOFIL® tarpaulins take up minimal space on board a boat, since they can roll up to a really compact size and even be stored away in small recesses.

Durable and hard-wearing

The specialist PU coating makes PLANOFIL® so hard-wearing that it withstands long-term exposure to the most adverse conditions in seawater. The key properties of the tarpaulin material are:

  • UV-resistant (UV protection factor 50+, tested to ISO 13758 standard)
  • Weather-resistant and temperature-resistant (from -40 to +80 ºC)
  • Waterproof (water column of 200 cm)
  • Seawater-resistant
  • Water-repellent (tested in accordance with Bundesmann ISO 29865)
  • Dirt-repellent
  • Special mould-prevention treatment

The thing boat owners fear above all else is bird droppings. This and other types of dirt can quickly render conventional boat covers unusable and cleaning them is simply too time-consuming. But with PLANOFIL®, covers virtually clean themselves. Thanks to a special water-repellent finish with non-stick properties, even heavy dirt struggles to stick to the surface of the tarpaulin; instead, it usually washes off the next time it rains.

Tear-resistant and abrasion-resistant

Anyone who invests in a high-quality PLANOFIL® cover can still count on reliable protection for their boat after years and years of outdoor use. Even after long-term exposure to wind, rain and sunlight, the boat cover will not become brittle or lose its shape:

  • Tear resistance tested in compliance with ISO 13934-1
  • Tear propagation resistance tested in compliance with Elmendorf ISO 13937-1
  • Abrasion resistance tested in compliance with Martindale ISO 12947-2

Easy to handle

With PLANOFIL®, boat owners need no longer slave away covering and uncovering their vessel: Thanks to the textile structure on the underside, the ultra-lightweight and flexible fabric glides quickly and effortlessly over every type of surface.

„When I choose a material, it's essential it is easy to work with, premium quality and available around the clock. That's why PLANOFIL® is my number one choice, without a doubt“
